Banks & digital banking guides in Canada

Start with the name you know, then look more closely at the account and service. This directory brings together our existing bank, digital-provider and legacy-brand guides. It is not a list of current offers or a claim that every listed brand is itself a bank.

    Your starting points

    • 15 guide families: six Big Six banks, five digital providers or brands, and four other or legacy guides.
    • Follow the product: confirm its issuer, current access, fees and protections in the provider’s agreement.
    • Legacy context matters: the HSBC Canada guide explains the RBC transition; it does not offer a new HSBC Canada retail account.

    Questions before you choose

What does “Big Six” mean here?

This filter groups the existing RBC, TD, BMO, Scotiabank, CIBC and National Bank guides. It does not rank their accounts.

    Are all digital providers banks?

No. A consumer brand, platform and the institution holding a deposit may be different organizations. Check the specific product’s issuer, agreement and applicable protection.

Do digital accounts always cost less?

Compare the actual account terms with how you use it. Monthly fees, transaction charges, minimum-balance conditions and return on your money can change the comparison.

How do I change my everyday account?

Keep track of deposits and payments during the transition. Our account-switching checklist explains the statements and confirmations to check before closing an old account.
