    How‑To Guides

Our step‑by‑step guides help you complete common online banking tasks. Follow clear instructions to open an account, send an Interac e‑Transfer, enable two‑step verification, deposit cheques and manage your cards. Each guide includes prerequisites, troubleshooting and FAQs.

Set up access through your provider

    1. Find the institution’s official website or app from a trusted source.
    2. Check its registration instructions and the product you already hold.
    3. Complete identity and contact verification directly with that institution.
    4. Choose a unique password and enable the available sign-in protections.
    5. Keep recovery details current and learn where to report suspicious activity.

Registration, account opening and credit approval are different processes. BankOnline does not perform them.

Recover access without giving a stranger control

Use the current forgotten-password process in your provider’s official app or website. If you cannot use the registered phone or email, contact the bank through a verified channel. Do not send a password, security answer or verification code to MITEY or someone offering remote assistance.

    Understand a temporary card lock

Where your provider offers a card-lock feature, check what it blocks and what may continue, such as some recurring payments. A temporary lock is not necessarily a lost-card report or a dispute. Contact the provider if a card is missing or you see an unauthorized transaction.

Switch accounts without losing track of a payment

Opening a replacement account is only the start. Ask both institutions about transfer help, fees and timing before moving your everyday banking.

    1. Review old statements. List direct deposits, pre-authorized debits, recurring bills and outstanding cheques.
    2. Confirm access to the new account and its terms. Give employers, benefit providers and billers the new details through their official channels; ask when each change takes effect.
    3. Keep the old account open during the switch, with money available for payments still due there. Fund the new account before its debits begin.
    4. Check statements from both institutions. Confirm deposits arrive correctly, payments have moved and nothing is missed or paid twice.
    5. When all outstanding transactions are resolved, ask the old institution about closure and any charges. Keep the statements and closure confirmation.

    Why Use Our Guides?

We break down complex tasks into clear steps and explain the context behind them. Our guides include screenshots or diagrams where possible and highlight security best practices like using trusted devices and two‑step verification.

Note: Always double‑check that you are on your bank's official website or app before entering login details. Look for "https://" and the correct domain name.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Are your guides specific to each bank?

Where there are differences, we create separate guides per institution. We also provide universal how‑to articles that apply to most banks and credit unions.

Do I need any special equipment?

Most tasks require a computer or smartphone with internet access. For mobile cheque deposit you'll need a camera.

    What if something goes wrong?

We include troubleshooting tips in each guide. If you're locked out of your account or suspect fraud, contact your bank immediately.

    How often are guides updated?

Selected topics show a dated source review. App menus, products and terms may change between reviews; the provider’s current instructions take priority.

    Can I print these guides?

Yes. You can print or save them as PDFs for offline reference.
